Known as the Venice of Myanmar, Inle Lake is a highland lake in Shan State, providing livelihood to lake dwellers, famous for their leg rowing. It is the second largest fresh water lake in Myanmar, located in the Nyaungshwe Township of Taunggyi District in Shan State, part of Shan Hills in Myanmar.

It is one of the top 3 destinations in Myanmar due to its uniqueness. The villagers dwelling in the lake are referred to as Intha, and they specialize in crafts such as silversmith, silk weaving and much more. Their houses are built on the shallow part of the lake on stilts, and main method of transportation is via boat, which they row with their leg. You will find floating gardens along the lake and floating market as you take your boat ride. Although the traditional boats are rowed with a paddle, you can ride around the lake with motorized canoes to explore.

As the second largest lake, it has estimated surface area of 44.9 square miles, and one of the highest at an altitude of 2,900 feet. The water levels vary throughout the seasons, ranging from average water depth of 7 feet during dry season to 12 feet during rainy season. There is also hot spring on its northwestern shore that you can visit.
