Formally known as Scott’s Market, it is a covered bazaar in central Yangon. Built in 1926, it was named after the Municipal Commissioner Mr. Gavin Scott, renamed after Bogyoke Aung San upon independence in 1948. The market today is known for its colonial architecture and cobblestone streets, popular shopping place for both locals and tourist alike. Burmese handicrafts, jewelry shops, art galleries, traditional textiles and clothing stores, as well as food stalls. Prices are not fixed and haggling is expected.
