Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda

Chaukhtatgyi or the Six-storied (chauk means six in Burmese, htat means number of floors) Pagoda is a massive reclining Buddha image, built around the turn of last century. The construction work on the Pagoda began in 1899 and completed in 1907. About 5m was added to the image during renovations in 1966 and currently stands at 16m high and 65m long. The image’s feet were decorated in traditional 108 Lakhanna or 108 segments of auspicious characteristics attributed to the Buddha.
